Asking for “More…

In the famous movie version of the book, “Oliver Twist”, Oliver goes to one of the people in the orphanage and asks for more oatmeal.

The indignation of the man, who exclaims id disbelief, “MORE?!!! shows how incredulous it was for an orphan to have a desire for more of what the orphanage was willing to give to a poor orphan.

Yet this is exactly how it is in this world.

The message on planet earth is that your worth and all related to you is “You’ll take what we give you and you’ll like it!”

But this is not God’s message.

God has no limit on what you can ask for. God says,

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show you great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. 3 Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. Jeremiah 33:3

God is constantly telling us that we do not have because we do not ask…

“Ask of Me, and I will assuredly give [You] the nations as Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth as Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall shatter them [in pieces] like earthenware. Psalms 2:7-12

We are to “ask” of God, and he says he will give us our request. Who are these nations? They are our friends, family, and neighbors. They are the lost and hurting of our community. To take possession of them means to bring them into God’s glorious kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. But in literal language, the Lord means the actual NATIONS of the world.

He also tells us to ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For EVERY ONE that asks… RECEIVES. This is not selective…He doesn’t say, “Hey, as long as you ask for something “reasonable” you will receive it.” NO There were no limits on His command to ASK, SEEK and KNOCK.

I am constantly asking for wisdom and the Lord grants it like running water from a tap.

Oliver asked for more, because his inner belief was, “IF I AM NOT SATISFIED, I’LL JUST GO AND GET SOME MORE!” What the guard or person in the movie was trying to convince Oliver was that it was out of bounds to ask for more. “YOU CAN’T ASK FOR MORE YOU MISERABLE ORPHAN…YOU’LL TAKE WHAT WE GIVE YOU!”

We were placed upon the earth, in the garden as the ones to rule over the birds of the4 air, the fish of the sea and all that crawls upon the earth. We are in charge of management, rulership, and all that occurs on this planet. Yet, I find that most Christians, even though they tacitly agree, don’t really buy it! MAN WAS GIVEN RULERSHIP ON THE EARTH, AND HE NEVER HALTED THAT ORDER!

And so, we go through our lives accepting a single bowl of mushy, lukewarm porridge and we believe the lie that God wants it that way. WE HAVE BEEN LIED TO AND MUST PRESS IN AND ASK THE LORD FOR MORE!

He isn’t holding out on you, it’s just that we don’t have the audacity to believe that we are loved that much! GOD LOVES US!!! HE WANTS TO GIVE YOU MUCH, MUCH MORE!!! “Ask and it WILL be given!”

I am learning to walk in greater audacity…to believe His love extends to so much more…especially in the area of influence and rulership.
